BASEBALL: Jr. Wilson/VFW tops Cambria 5-1.

Improving to 8-3, the front-running Jr. Wilson/VFW Eagles defeated Cambria 5-1 Thursday in a Lockport ‘A’ League game.

Jerod Preedom tossed a five hitter with 11 strikeouts to set the pace as he allowed only one earned run.

The Eagles broke away from a scoreless deadlock by chalking up four runs in the third inning. John Brabon, Ken Urbanik, Preedom, Ryan Riemer and Eric Spychalski all singled in the frame. Preedom’s and Spychalski’s singles plated runs. Andy Hydock and Joe Burgess also both contributed an RBI to the uprising.

The Eagles added an insurance run in the fourth inning. Sean Stanley doubled off the wall in center, Brabon singled and Urbanik drove Stanley home.

On the day, Riemer was 3 for 3 and Preedom 2 for 2.

The loss drops Cambria to 5-3.
