YOUTH FOOTBALL: Roy-Hart tops BarLyn 19-7

Unable to keep up the momentum generated by an early touchdown drive, the BarLyn Cubs dropped a 19-7 decision to the Roy-Hart Rams at Vets Park Saturday in the semifinal round of the Niagara Orleans Football Association Mini Division playoffs.

The Cubs jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead on a 57-yard touchdown run by Ed Schildt and an extra point carry by Austin Sullivan with 2:51 to go in the first quarter.

However, the Rams answered right back a minute later on a 57-yard TD run by Aaron Currie and an extra point carry by Brendon Hess to knot the contest.

The game remained deadlocked until Adam Newman scored for Roy-Hart on a 27-yard run midway through the third quarter for what proved to be the game winning touchdown.

The Rams added an insurance score in the final quarter on a short touchdown run by Hess.

Schildt finished with 77 yards rushing for the Cubs as Sullivan added 37, Jacob Bruning 10, Cody Bentley 5 and Nolan Donald 4 receiving.

On defense for the Cubs, Bruning and Jacob Hurtgam both had fumble recoveries. Bruning, Schildt, Andrew Jenks and Mathew Scroger sacks. Bentley and Schildt led in tackles.

Roy-Hart will now face Akron in the championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Vets Park. Akron defeated Attica in the other semifinal.
