VOLLEYBALL: Purple Eagles host Medina tonight.

Long runs of service points to open games one and three and to finish game two keyed Albion to a 25-15, 25-10, 25-23 season opening non- league victory over Oakfield-Alabama on Wednesday.

Chelsea Beecher served up six points in a row (2-7) to ignite Albion in game one, a run which featured four aces along with spiking kills by Paige Golden and Casey Button.

Beecher also had a big early run of seven straight points (2-8) to get Albion going in game three. She again had four aces during that run as Golden, Button and Jenn Knaak each chipped in with a kill.

Emalee Soule helped close out game two with a long run of eight points in a row (17-24) highlighted by four kills and a block by Button. Beecher and Knaak also both had kills during the run.

Beecher had a total of 14 service points, nine aces and four kills in the match while Button had eight kills, Golden seven and Knaak six and two aces.

Albion opens the Niagara-Orleans League season this evening at home against Medina (JV match at 5 p.m.).

Girls Soccer

Kendall defeated Byron-Bergen 3-0 Tuesday in the Genesee Region League season opener on goals by Morgan Spurr, Kaila Browe and Jennifer Sutphen.
