TRICK OR TREAT

Medina Journal-Register — MEDINA — The annual Beggars Night festivities is this weekend, with downtown businesses once again holding the pre-Halloween trick-or-treating event for all of the little princesses, vampires and ninja turtles.

The Medina Beggars Night will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, with more than 500 elementary school aged children expected to take advantage of the Medina Business Association-sponsored event.

A similar event was planned for downtown Albion, but will not be held this year.

The extra costumed kids will be welcome in Medina, where dozens of business owners will great children outside their businesses with a variety of treats.

“The children get to do some trick-and-treating at the businesses ... it’s a great way for us to give back,” said Sue Phillips of the Book Shoppe, who organizes the Medina event. “It’s a good time, many of the business owners get dressed up.”

Cub Scout Pack will sell cider and donuts in Rotary Park, which in recent years has hosted a night-ending show by Dance Theater performers. That performance has been moved to the area behind the Medicine Shoppe as children queue up at 5:15 p.m.

In Medina, the Halloween night trick-or-treating will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Medina Police Chief Jose Avila said. He advised that only houses with their porch lights on should be visited by the 12-and-younger crowd.
