Medina Journal-Register — RIDGEWAY — The Ridgeway Town Board has dedicated a great deal of time in recent months to completing a water district project in the northern edge of town, but with that project nearing completion interest is already coming for the next project.

Town Supervisor Brian Napoli said Tuesday that USDA Rural Development has asked the town to submit a preliminary funding estimate for Water District No. 12, which would include properties on Angling and Ramshaw roads as well as other nearby properties.

“They’re interested (in funding the project),” Napoli said. “Apparently we scored very high on their ratings.”

The town’s 11th water district, which connects properties on South Townline Road between Swett and Oregon roads is three-quarters of the way done, Highway Superintendent Mark Goheen told board members.

Napoli noted that a pre-construction meeting held earlier this month went well.

”It shouldn’t take long to do this,” said Napoli, who added that the district has already gained three out-of-district users in the Town of Yates.

An out-of-district debt service agreement still needs to be worked out for the Yates connecters, but there is precedence for charging such users. Town Attorney Kathy Bogan said that a 2006 agreement with Yates allows residents of Murdock Road hooked up to one of Yates’ water districts to pay for the district’s debt service.

The town okayed one Yates request Tuesday — allowing the the northern town to install and maintain a streetlight at the intersection of Swett and South Townline Road.

”It’s a safety issue — It’s a dark intersection,” Goheen said.

• The town board approved measures Tuesday that would eliminate the position of assessment clerk while moving that 10 hours/week role into the town clerk’s office.

That clerk position would now be split between the town clerk, code enforcement and highway offices. $6,383 was moved from the assessment budget to the town clerk budget to cover the position’s salary.

Napoli said the move came as the result of a reduction in traffic to the assessment office. He noted that the county clerk’s office now provides much of the information residents had received from the town’s office.

• The RIdgeway Volunteer Fire Company provided the town with a hand-delivered report on monthly and yearly activity. According to the report, the fire company responded to 21 calls in December and 255 in 2012.
