ALBION —

Florida man arrested on narcotics charge
A Florida man is being held at the Orleans County Jail as a fugitive from justice in the state of Colorado.
Around 1:45 p.m. Saturday, Orleans County Sheriff’s Marine deputies were called to Lake Breeze Marina, 900 Point Breeze Road, after marina owner Doug Bennett became suspicious of a boat and trailer with expired Colorado registrations being pulled by a vehicle with an Iowa registration that was also expired. Bennett became more suspicious when the boat’s owner offered to sell him the truck and trailer, saying he intended to sail the boat to Florida, and would therefore have no further need of them.
Sheriff’s deputies identified the individual as Michael P. Starr, Jr., 43, of Lake Park, Fla. He was charged locally with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon after he reportedly was found in possession of an unregistered .40-caliber automatic handgun. Further investigation revealed that Starr is wanted in Broomfield County, Colo., on a dangerous narcotics charge.
Starr appeared before Carlton Town judge Patricia A. Russell, who set cash bail at $1,000 on the gun charge and no bail on the fugitive warrant.
Deputies J.W. Halstead and L.D. Manning were assisted by Lt. C.M. Bourke and his K-9 partner, Cliff.
