Downtown Medina Businesses will once again be opening their doors and popping corks to celebrate Wine About Winter, which returns for a third year from 2 to 7 p.m. Feb. 4.
More than 30 businesses will participate in the Medina Business Association event, which gives patrons a wine glass and a map of local businesses hosting wine tastings and special offers.
“It’s like a mini tour of Medina,” Ashlee’s Place owner Angela Waldriff said. “It’s great advertising for businesses.”
Event organizers Cindy Robinson and Kathy Blackburn said this year’s wine offerings come from both local and faraway wineries.
“Many will be from the Niagara Wine Trail,” Blackburn said.
“It’s a nice assortment from around the world,” Robinson added.
Tickets for the event are available at Ashlee’s Place on East Center Street. The 500 $15 regular tickets and 100 $20 VIP tickets, which allow patrons to start their tours an hour early, are quickly running out thanks to a big holiday push.
“More people are buying tickets as Christmas gifts,” Robinson said.
Blackburn and Robinson said several new businesses will participate for the first time this year, including Rock Paper, Grandma Hawley’s Dream, the soon-to-open East Center Street Stop and Save and Woodroe Realty. The Orleans Renaissance Group will host a tasting at Bent’s Opera House.
“We’re very excited, it was an easy decision to participate,” Grandma Hawley’s Dream co-owner Cheryl McConnell said. “It’s a great advertisement for the store and the community.”
Many businesses will offer special deals and contests. Rock Paper owner and head stylist Yvonne Flores said she’ll offer discounts and a fun experience at her Pearl Street salon.
“I’m going to offer five-minute consultations,” Flores said. “We’ll sit down with a glass of wine and talk about hair styling.”
The event will start at the Orleans County Chamber of Commerce Building at 433 Main St., where the souvenir wine glasses can be picked up and Chinese auction tickets can be bought. Auction baskets will be in each business.
Proceeds from the event will go to the MBA, which has bought a series of banners promoting local events and welcoming visitors to the community. The banners for Wine About Winter were installed this week by the Village DPW.
“The banners will change with the seasons,” Robinson said.
