Villagers re-elect Kruzynski, Irwin

Medina Journal-Register — MEDINA — The Medina Village Board heads into a crucial period unchanged from the previous term after villagers voted to keep on a pair of trustees for another two years.

The Village Party ticket of Deputy Mayor Mark Irwin and Trustee Mark Kruzynski were re-elected over write-in opposition Tuesday in a low-turnout vote.

According to the initial count, Kruzynski received 174 votes, with Irwin taking in 118. Former Trustee Owen Toale received 61 write-in votes, with Mike Sidari receiving six, Mike Maryjanowski taking in two and single votes cast for Peter Huth and Marguerite Sherman.

Kruzynski, the Medina High School Principal, said he was humbled after being re-elected to a second term.

”I never wanted to take it for granted, I’m really thankful for the community’s support,” said Kruzynski, who noted he’s eager to help continue the improvement in the village.

”I like to have what’s happening on Main Street spread out to the whole community,” Kruzynski said. “We need to work together.”

Irwin joined fellow Village Party members to hear the announcement of vote totals. He said he was honored to serve another term and took the result as a sign that the public backed the village government’s efforts.

“This shows that constituents are happy with the course we’re taking,” said Irwin, who will start his third term next month. “Everyone I talked to seems to agree.”

”The election shows we’re on the right track,” Mayor Andrew Meier added.

With the election dispensed with, the board’s next focus is the 2013-14 budget. Kruzynski feels the current board’s experience will make the process easier.

”We start the budget process right away, but (with five returning board members) there’s less of a learning curve,” Kruzynski said. “I look forward to working with everybody the next two years.”
