Medina Journal-Register — MEDINA — The success of last month’s Wine about Winter and last fall’s Ale in Autumn events has put the Medina Business Association in an unprecedented financial position.
MBA Treasurer Mary Lewis said Tuesday that the business association has more than $21,000 in its bank accounts, with a big part of that coming from the profits of the Feb. 2 wine tasting event.
The 2013 Wine about Winter was the MBA’s most successful event, MBA President Cindy Robinson said, with more than $16,000 in revenues and an expected $7,000 in profits.
“We don’t want the money to just sit there,” Robinson said.
In the past, the business association has used funds from Wine about Winter and Ale in Autumn to finance projects like the downtown sound system and the MBA’s recently-launched website.
“The events have helped us raise money to promote our downtown businesses,” said Lewis, who noted that incoming projects like flower barrels and additional banners will come from those funds.
The MBA has also purchased the paint for the visitors center’s new headquarters, which will open when the canal is re-flooded next month, and will contribute towards a pair of new bike racks.
