Staff Reports
Dozens of residents who live in the Town of Yates and the Village of Lyndonville have had their cars burglarized over the past two months, according to complaints and police reports.
Evelyn Karehan lives along Route 18 in Yates. She said she and her husband had hubcap and lug nut covers stolen off their vehicles — parked in their driveway — during the month of December.
She claims there were 20 other vehicles that were broken into or had parts taken off them along North Lyndonville Road, East Yates Road and West Yates Road, and Murdock Road, to name a few.
Another village resident, C. Reed, reported that during the early hours of Jan. 17, her husband’s truck was broken into and two Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and a wallet were stolen.
Chief Deputy Thomas L. Drennan of the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the reports.
“We had received 20 different complaints in that area,” he said.
Those reports include cars being broken into, rummaged through or burglarized. Many of the incidents happened in the Lyndonville area, he said.
Most of the complaints reportedly occurred overnight Jan. 10.
Drennan said the sheriff’s department has completed incident reports on all the complaints, and the cases are open and an investigation is continuing with the assistance of Lyndonville law enforcement.
