LYNDONVILLE — Local business owner Harold Suhr will soon gather with friends and local supporters for the formal announcement of his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for the 139th State Assembly District seat. Republican Stephen Hawley currently holds the seat.
Well known around Orleans County, Suhr will make his announcement Sunday at the White Birch Golf Course, a popular restaurant and golf course that Suhr owns and operates in Lyndonville.
“We are very excited at the prospect of a candidate of Harold’s stature agreeing to take on this challenge. In the last year we have gotten to know Harold Suhr very well and are confident that the rest of the district will be impressed with his style and substance,” said Orleans County Democratic Chairperson Sally Rytlewski.
In addition to owning the White Birch, Suhr is the owner of a semi-pro football team, the Lyndonville Tigers. Suhr also worked as a millwright at General Motors for 30 years.
The focus of Suhr’s campaign will be to help rejuvenate the districts economy by reaching out to Albany to invest in the region. His business sense and bi-partisan approach are his strong suits, according to Rytlewski. Suhr is an independent thinker who believes strongly in the core beliefs of the Democratic party, including a commitment to help citizens work together to earn a piece of the American Dream.
In a letter inviting supporters to attend his formal announcement, Suhr noted that “with the challenges New Yorkers will face in the coming months and years, the 139th Assembly District deserves someone who will fight for our fair share of state tax revenue while promoting fiscal responsibility. We deserve someone who represents the call for change that is sweeping our nation, and not an entrenched, ineffective politician.”
