COUNTY COURT: Judge orders six months in jail, probation for Matthew Stamp
Matthew J. Stamp, 21, was sentenced to six months at the Orleans County Jail and five years probation for a guilty plea in charges stemming from a countywide drug bust March 21 that involved 10 defendants.
With a search warrant, Major Felony Crime Task Force members, the Medina police and the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department searched 405 S. Academy St., upper apartment, in Medina. Approximately 10 grams of cocaine, two ounces of marijuana and prescription pills were found, and had been packaged for sale, police said.
Stamp pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance in July. He faced a maximum of 21⁄2 years in state prison.
During sentencing, Stamp spoke to Judge James P. Punch, saying he was sorry for the acts he committed.
“What I did was wrong,” Stamp said. “I regret what I did.”
Besides jail time and probation, Stamp’s driving privileges were taken away for six months and he was ordered to pay a $270 surcharge within the next 60 days.
In other cases:
n Michael A. Gates was assessed as a Level 3 sex offender. Gates is required to register as a sex offender 15 days before his release. He was charged with first-degree rape, first-degree aggravated sexual assault, sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child in 2006.
n A trial date of Nov. 5 was set for Roy A. Crawley Jr. Crawley is charged with third-, fourth- and fifth-degree criminal possession of controlled substance. Although a plea was offered, Crawley maintained his innocence and asked to go to trial.
n Rosa M. Marascio was sentenced to six months in jail and five years’ probation. Punch said that he wanted to help Marascio, but she was also a risk to the community. He said that there were two ways to help her, incarceration or probation, and she would get both.
n Alan C. Phifer and Sabrina N. Rosenbaum were both sentenced to 90 days in jail for attempted petit larceny. District Attorney Joseph Cardone said that the two defendants and a third had an incident at the Auto Zone in Medina. By taking the plea, both defendants waived their right to a trial and appeal.

Special gift pushes trust campaign over the top

District confirms leave of absence
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department issued an appearance ticket Aug. 21, requiring a district administrator to appear in Batavia Town Court next month to answer a charge of driving while intoxicated. The Holley Central School District can confirm that the administrator has been on leave since Aug. 3, which includes the alleged time of the incident.
