HOLLEY: Students celebrate the Year of the Ox

Staff Reports

HOLLEY — Third-grade students at Holley Elementary School celebrated the Chinese New Year on Friday with many different activities.

The students got a chance to learn about the culture by making Chinese writing banners, red good luck envelopes, dragon masks and Chinese lanterns. They also learned several Chinese phrases.

Students learned how to properly hold chop sticks, then put their new knowledge to the test. After the activities were complete, the children used the chopsticks to eat a lunch of sweet and sour chicken, rice and Asian vegetables were served.

Teacher Lynn Vendetti said that this program is something they try to do every year. She said that it is done with the third grade students because they learn about different cultures from around the world.
