SPECIAL TO THE JOURNAL-REGISTER
Approximately 40 Kendall Elementary School fifth- and sixth-graders performed “On the Radio,” a musical celebrating walks throughout music history since the 1900s. The students performed an evening show April 15 for the community and a daytime performance for the entire school April 20.
From the 1941 “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Footloose,” students took their audience on a journey through time.
Students performed a number of tunes in the musical, which captures the sounds of a radio station, and gave the audience the illusion that they were listening all over the world to the radio. Students danced and performed commercials, even singing local jingles such as Cellino & Barnes and Lori’s Natural Foods.
”From the backstage crew getting props to the actors and the curtain call bows, everyone has done a great job,” said Grace Adams, Kendall Elementary School vocal music teacher and musical coordinator.
“The students have been committed from the first rehearsal to the show, and have felt how great it is to accomplish something good,” she said. “I enjoy watching these students grow in self-confidence and courage.”
