SHELBY: Burglary suspect caught on foot by police after chase around area.
SHELBY — A three-hour search for a burglary suspect finally resulted in an arrest late Monday afternoon.
Judd A. Farewell Jr., 17, was taken into custody shortly after 4 p.m. Monday following a brief foot chase by a member of the Orleans County Major Felony Crimes Task Force. Farewell was spotted walking along Oak Orchard Creek behind the Medina Genesee Community Campus on Route 31-A.
The search began around 1 p.m., after Farewell was observed in the 11200 block of Blair Road in the Town of Shelby.
Medina Police Chief Jose Avila said a warrant was issued Monday for Farewell’s arrest by Orleans County Court. The man is a suspect in several residential and commercial burglaries on the west side of the county that occurred in the past two months. He is a suspect in at least six burglaries that have been committed since this past Friday, three of which were committed Monday, Avila said.
Also participating in the search were sheriff’s deputies, state troopers, Medina police officers and the state police aviation unit. K-9 dogs from the sheriff’s department and Albion Police Department were also used.

Special gift pushes trust campaign over the top
The Sandstone Trust of Medina has exceeded its 2010 summer campaign goal on the strength of a very special memorial gift which was made public this week. The immediate family of the late Fern J. Blackburn (widow of Paul R. Blackburn) presented a major contribution to the Trust committee in an amount equaling 20 percent of the entire summer campaign goal of $25,000. With this support, the total of summer gifts stands today at approx. $27,000, leaders said.

District confirms leave of absence
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department issued an appearance ticket Aug. 21, requiring a district administrator to appear in Batavia Town Court next month to answer a charge of driving while intoxicated. The Holley Central School District can confirm that the administrator has been on leave since Aug. 3, which includes the alleged time of the incident.
