Village of Medina police arrested a 20-year-old Medina man after investigating an alleged assault Friday that the police chief said was extremely brutal.
Matthew A. Perez, 20, 309 Catherine St., has been charged with first-degree assault.
Police were called to Medina Memorial Hospital on Friday for a report of a man severely injured.
Police Chief Jose Avila said the victim reported that he had been beaten with a large, metal fire poker on Lee Place. The victim’s wounds required facial surgery.
“This is the worst attack I’ve seen in the Village of Medina,” Avila said.
Officers gathered statements from several witnesses that confirmed the victim was assaulted, according to reports.
Police reported finding a large amount of blood at the scene and recovered a fire poker that had blood on it, according to reports.
The victim told police he was called by a friend and enticed to come over to the house where the crime occurred, according to reports.
Perez was arraigned before Judge Lawrence Sanderson and held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Police are continuing their investigation.
