On Sunday morning, the Butts Road railroad bridge became the scene of yet another crash, when an ARC bus collided with the underpass.
At 11:15 a.m., the ARC bus, owned by Lakeside Assistance from Hamlin, was heading south with three passengers on board when it struck the bridge, lodging it under the railroad underpass. According to Ron Holzermer, public information officer for the Albion Fire Department, this is the third time this year a vehicle was involved in an accident with the bridge, which was constructed in 1907.
The Albion fire and police departments responded to the scene, blocking off Butts Road at both ends. The three passengers, driver and aide were all transported by COVA, Holley and Kendall ambulances to Lakeside Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
The vehicle was lodged three-quarters of the way in, and took an extended period of time to free up, Holzermer said.
The incident is currently being investigated by Orleans County Sheriff Lt. Chris Bourke.
