LOCAL: Fruits, veggies and flowers among the items for sale.

Offering a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, flowers and many other items, the Orleans County farmer’s market has began their 2009 season.

In Medina, the farmer’s market will be held every Thursday at the canal basin. Hours will be from noon to 6 p.m., June through September, and noon to 5 p.m. in October.

In Albion, the farmer’s market will be held every Saturday at the Save-A-Lot parking lot. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Oct. 31.

Organizer Ann Nice said that there will again by special events held throughout the season. She said that on July 2, in Medina, and July 4, in Albion, the first basket will be given away and will feature not only fruit and vegetables but products from local businesses. The baskets will then be given away once a month.

Currently, the farmer’s market is featuring four full-time vendors offering early summer vegetables, strawberries and local honey and maple syrup.
