MEDINA — It won’t be long now until the much-anticipated Tim Hortons opens its doors in Medina. After much talk and planning, a construction team broke ground this week on the Maple Ridge Road site.
According to Code Enforcement Officer Marty Busch, the reason for the delay of Tim Hortons was that originally the restaurant was set to be located on the north side of Maple Ridge Road. He said that the site plans were approved but there was a problem with the state transportation department. A decision was then made to move the building to the south side of the street but again had to go through site plan approval.
During soil testing of the site, Busch said that contamination was found from underground gas tanks and needed to be cleaned-up before the construction could commence.
Now beginning work, Busch said that this building will feature an entirely new design for the restaurant.
“It’s quite an attractive building and landscape,” Busch said. “It’s quite an improvement of Maple Ridge Road.”
Busch said that if everything goes as planned, Tim Hortons will be opened for business by the end of August.
Planning Board Chairman Christopher Busch said that on behalf of the entire planning board he is pleased that Tim Hortons has broken ground.
“They’re moving forward,” he said. “Within 90 days there should be a fully functional Tim Hortons.”
