MEDINA: Annual hydrant flushing schedule is announced.
To improve the quality of the water distribution system, the Village of Medina will perform hydrant flushing, beginning the third week of July. The maintenance will continue for approximately three weeks.
This is part of a regularly scheduled update for the village’s water system and is done to improve water quality through high volume circulation.
The fire department will be flowing hydrants from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. in an attempt to reduce inconvenience to the public. Residents may notice a temporary drop in water pressure in their home and may notice some discoloration due to the high iron content in the water. Any discolored water is not harmful for consumption, according to the fire department, so there is no need for alarm.
However, this discoloration will stain laundry, so it is advised residents refrain from doing laundry during this time period.
The Orleans County Health Department recommends consumers “vigorously flush first their cold, then hot faucets, to more rapidly purge their home plumbing of the discolored water.”
If discoloration still occurs after purging and using the water for 24 hours, contact the public works department at 798-1790.

Special gift pushes trust campaign over the top
The Sandstone Trust of Medina has exceeded its 2010 summer campaign goal on the strength of a very special memorial gift which was made public this week. The immediate family of the late Fern J. Blackburn (widow of Paul R. Blackburn) presented a major contribution to the Trust committee in an amount equaling 20 percent of the entire summer campaign goal of $25,000. With this support, the total of summer gifts stands today at approx. $27,000, leaders said.

District confirms leave of absence
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department issued an appearance ticket Aug. 21, requiring a district administrator to appear in Batavia Town Court next month to answer a charge of driving while intoxicated. The Holley Central School District can confirm that the administrator has been on leave since Aug. 3, which includes the alleged time of the incident.

Fifty-six years strong for Camp Rainbow Fund
