ORLEANS COUNTY: Legislature holds public hearing

Staff Reports

A public hearing was held during Wednesday’s Orleans County Legislature meeting for the proposed hotel/motel occupancy tax. The tax was first implemented in 2004, and members need permission every two years to continue the tax.

The 4 percent tax on motels, hotels, bed and breakfasts, and lodges helps generate money for tourism in the county. If extended, the new expiration date will be Dec. 31, 2011.

No one spoke at the hearing.

Updates were also given to legislators by Kelly Kiebala, GO ART! executive director; Daniel Schuth, regional manager of Orleans County Soil and Water Conservation; and Paul Fulcomer, director of the Orleans County Veterans Agency.
