Man charged with fraud
Nicholas Rich held on $10,000 bail
MEDINA — After an early morning arrest Monday, Nicholas Rich, 49, 201 Park Ave., appeared before Justice Lawrence Sanderson in Medina Village court.
Rich was charged with second-degree criminal possession of forged instruments, operating a vehicle without insurance, operating a vehicle on a suspended registration, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of address change.
Rich, a Medina Fire Department callman and contributing photographer for several local newspapers, was listed as producer for two films that were shot in Medina earlier this year.
The charges against Rich came after Officer Eric Harling stopped Rich on Nov. 4 on Genesee Street for alleged vehicle and traffic violations. According to police, Rich then provided the officer with an insurance card that turned out to be fraudulent. The insurance charges fall under a Class D felony.
During court, after being asked if he could afford an attorney, Rich responded that he is “in-between jobs right now” and is receiving help from the government.
“I’m going to enter a plea of not guilty on your behalf,” Sanderson told Rich.
Assistant District Attorney Katherine Bogan recommended that bail be set at $10,000, based on his prior history in other states, and because he is considered a flight risk, she said.
Rich was remanded to the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department.

Special gift pushes trust campaign over the top

Blackburn (widow of Paul R. Blackburn) presented a major contribution to the Trust committee in an amount equaling 20 percent of the entire summer campaign goal of $25,000. With this support, the total of summer gifts stands today at approx. $27,000, leaders said.

District confirms leave of absence
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department issued an appearance ticket Aug. 21, requiring a district administrator to appear in Batavia Town Court next month to answer a charge of driving while intoxicated. The Holley Central School District can confirm that the administrator has been on leave since Aug. 3, which includes the alleged time of the incident.
