City of Tonawanda police have announced that the 15-year-old boy who was struck by a train last week was pulled off of life support Friday.
Anthony Fracassi of Buffalo was was playing baseball at the city’s Boys and Girls Club as part of the Challenged Athletes Participating in Sports program on Tuesday when he wandered off. About 15 minutes after attendants noticed that he was missing, the attendants ran over to a stopped CSX train and saw that it had struck the teen.
In talking with the train’s operators, police said officers were told the boy was spotted standing between the southbound and northbound tracks near Main Street and Fuller Avenue. The conductor told police he applied the brake and blew the horn, but to no avail.
He was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he was initially listed in stable condition before his condition worsened. The victim's family decided Friday to remove him from life support, police said. Read Tuesday's Tonawanda News for more details.
