Medina Journal-Register — Snowmobiler seriously injured

in Kendall

A Spencerport man sustained a serious head injury Wednesday afternoon after being ejected from the snowmobile he was operating in the Town of Kendall. 

According to the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office, John P. Battista, 35, was ejected and thrown head first from his snowmobile into another snowmobile after running into a drainage ditch. The incident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m., in an area north of Roosevelt Highway and east of Kendall Road.

Battista and Frederick A. Kirkpatrick, 46, Rochester were operating separate sleds and headed towards the snowmobile trail when the accident occurred. Kirkpatrick was not injured.

The incident occurred approximately 200 yards east of the Kendall firehouse. Kendall Fire and EMS personnel responded to Kirkpatrick’s 911 call. Battista was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

The incident was investigated by Sheriff’s Deputy M.C. Mele, assisted by Deputy D.S. Klips.

POLICE REPORTS

Village of Albion

TRESPASS: Orlando J. Hernandez, 19, Albion was charged Jan. 20 with second-degree criminal trespass and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

AGGRAVATED DWI: Nicholas D. Soule, 23, Albion was charged Jan. 20 with aggravated driving while intoxicated-blood alcohol content of more than .18 of one percent, driving while intoxicated, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to keep right on two-lane road.

RESISTING ARREST: James M. Shingleton Jr., 36, Albion was charged Jan. 19 with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, second-degree resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

FORGERY: Michael G. Andre, 23, Albion was charged Jan. 16 with felony second-degree forgery-medical prescription.

STOLEN PROPERTY: A 15-year-old Albion male was charged Jan. 16 with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

ASSAULT/HARASSMENT: A 16-year-old Elmira male was charged Jan. 16 with felony second-degree assault, second-degree menacing-weapon, second-degree aggravated harassment, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and acting in a manner to injure a child under the age of 17.

MISCHIEF/TRESPASS: Joseph T. Allport, 31, Albion was charged Jan. 16 with felony third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass and second-degree disobeying a court order.

UNLICENSED OPERATION: Crystal J. Dugan, 34, Albion was charged Jan. 15 with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.

WELFARE FRAUD: Willie Riley, 56, Albion was charged Jan. 15 with second-degree criminal use of a public benefit card.
