MEDINA —
Walking into the Book Shoppe with balloons and sign, local business owner Sue Phillips was surprised Wednesday to be the newest business “ambushed” by the Orleans County Chamber of Commerce.
Every few months, the Chamber’s Ambassadors Club honors a member who has gone above and beyond with the community or the chamber.
Executive Director Kevin Lake said the group chose Phillips to be the next “ambush” suspect because she is actively involved in the community and always helping behind the scenes with events for the Chamber and the Medina Business Association.
“This means a lot,” Phillips said. “I really appreciate what the Chamber does for the Book Shoppe and the community.”
This year marks the 17th year that the Book Shoppe has been in Medina.
“How nice to have a small business here for that long and doing well,” said Chamber board member Cindy Robinson. “Everyone loves her.”
Robinson said that because of Phillips being here, running a nice, stable business, it has encouraged new “specialty shops” to locate to the Medina area.
Since the “ambush” was started, three businesses have been recognized. Lisa Trippensee of Apple Blossom Florist and Dan DeCarlo of Arnold’s Auto Parts were the first two businesses to be honored.
