Purple Eagles trackmen face rebuilding challenge
Looking to fill some big holes left by graduation, Albion is preparing for the Niagara-Orleans League boys track opener April 19 at Akron.
Albion, which went 4-2 last spring, lost a number of key point getters to graduation including a quartet of N-O champions — Scott Knaak (pentathlon), Henry Haines (pole vault), Dylan Hall (shot-put and Shyhiem Rhodes (high jump).
“It’s a building year for us,” coach Wayne Wadhams said. “We’ve got some good kids coming back but the big thing for us is to get our young kids some experience.”
The Purple Eagles 46 member squad is led by a good group of veterans including senior Joe Bedard in the shot-put and discus, senior Troy Greene in the sprints and junior Marqise Riddick in the jumps along with juniors Brett Rosato, Colby Baney and Mike Patterson in the distance events.
Riddick finished third in the pentathlon at the All-League meet last spring and Bedard took a third in the shot-put.
The other senior members of the Purple Eagles squad include Billy Andrews, Levi Boyer, Andrew Burnside, Spencer Hill, Shane McQueen, Sabastian Piedmont, Colby Prentice, JD Smith, Rob Stilwell and Malcolm Taylor.
