Lady Rams trim Mustangs 10-2
SOFTBALL: Albion tops CSAT 10-2.
Roy-Hart and Albion both posted victories Monday to improve to 3-0 in Niagara-Orleans League softball competition.
Roy-Hart trimmed visiting Medina (1-2) 4-2 and Albion bested host CSAT (0-3) 10-2.
In the other N-O games, Barker (2-1) downed Newfane (0-3) 19-5 and Wilson (1-2) blanked Akron (2-1) 4-0.
Taylor Fry hurled a two hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Roy-Hart past Medina.
Trailing 1-0, Roy-Hart moved on top to stay by scoring twice in the bottom of the third inning on a lead-off double by Olivia Kelkenberg, a single by Lindsay Yates, a wild pitch and sacrifice by Ashley Bower.
A walk and a bunt single then helped to set up what proved to be the winning run in the fourth inning for Roy-Hart which also tallied once in the fifth on a single by Bower and a fielders choice play.
Medina did get a rally going in the top of the seventh cutting the deficit to 4-2 as Stormi Kruger led off with a triple and came home on an error. The Mustangs then got two runners aboard via a single by Jennifer Molisani and a walk but both were left stranded as Fry bore down to get out of the jam with three clutch game ending strikeouts.
The Lady Rams next host CSAT at 4:45 this afternoon and will be wearing teal jerseys in a tribute to their former teammate Meghan Redenbach who passed away in December of 2010 from cancer.
Albion 10, CSAT 2
BUFFALO — Jenn Knaak pitched a three hitter with 11 strikeouts to spark Albion past CSAT.
Knaak also banged out four hits as Sarah Papponetti had two and Halle Jurs drove in a total of three runs.
Jurs had a two-run double to highlight a four-run third inning for the Purple Eagles. Two walks and a single by Knaak set up that threat.
The Purple Eagles added three runs in the fifth frame as Jurs, Knaak and Ali O’Hearn all drove in runs.
Barker 19, Newfane 5
BARKER — Exploding for seven quick runs in the first inning, Barker went on to defeat Newfane 19-5 Monday as the Lady Raiders pounded out a total of 15 hits.
