Albion quartet heads N-O All-League team

Medina Journal-Register — Albion quartet heads All-League team

A quartet of Albion players heads the first team of the annual Niagara-Orleans All-League girls soccer squad.

The Purple Eagles are represented by senior defender Sarah Papponetti, senior midfielder Joyce LaLonde, junior forward Abby Squicciarini and freshman forward Mariah Elsenheimer.

Champion Wilson is represented by the trio of senior defender Jamie Curry, senior midfielder Mallorie Gagnon and junior midfielder Angela Goodman.

Newfane has also placed three players on the first team including goalie Shannon Shaw, defender Katie Shaw and midfielder Alexis Moreland, all seniors.

Akron’s sophomore duo of defender Paige Buscaglia and midfielder Cailin Regan round out the first team.

LaLonde, Curry, Gagnon, Moreland, Katie Shaw and Buscaglia are all repeat selections while Squicciarini and Regan were second team honorees a year ago.

Elsenheimer led Albion in scoring with 19 goals and four assists. LaLonde added 14 goals and 11 assists, Squicciarini 14 goals and 10 assists and Papponetti six goals and five assists. Squicciarini now has a career total of 34 goals.

Goodman had 11 goals and seven assists for Wilson as Gagnon added six goals ad nine assists and Curry two goals and one assist.

Moreland led Newfane and the league in scoring with 23 goals and 16 assists. Katie Shaw had a goal and nine assists. Defensively, Shannon Shaw made 109 saves in goal and had a goals against average of 0.862. Moreland finished with career schol records of 99 goals and 76 assists.

For Akron, Buscaglia had 17 goals and 14 assists and Regan 10 goals and 14 assists. Buscaglia now has career totals of 40 goals and 25 assists.

Wilson led the way on the second team with four selections including senior forward Holly Rudolph, sophomore midfielder Lauren Austin, senior midfielder Erin Harding and senior goalie Grace Adams.

Medina is represented on the second team by senior forward Stormi Kruger and junior defender Taylor Miller while Roy-Hart placed junior midfielder Melissa Zakrewski.

The second team also includes Newfane juniors Savannah Jonathan (forward) and Sophie Connor (midfield), Barker sophomores Alexis Sonberg (midfield) and Kelsi Flegal (defense), Akron senior defender Molly Gorski and CSAT junior defender Stephanie Lannen.

Albion also had a trio of honorable mention selections including Kendall Piccirilli, Kelsey Schmitt and Taylor Soule while Roy-Hart placed Christina Maynard, Stephanie Riegle and Olivia Kelkenberg.
