Lady Tigers boast veteran-laden team

Medina Journal-Register — LYNDONVILLE — With no seniors on the roster last spring was truly a building and learning season for the Lyndonville softball squad. Now, with the entire lineup returning virtually intact, the Lady Tigers are looking to capitalize on all of that experience for a strong Genesee Region League campaign.

The Lady Tigers veteran laden roster includes seniors Keri Stillinger (pitcher/infield), Alex Harling (first base/outfield), Alyssa Houseman (outfield) and Sierra VanWycke (first base); juniors Jenna Castricone (catcher/shortstop/third base), Cheyanne Button (outfield), Madison Gardepe (catcher/infield), Katie Marek (second base/outfield) and Chelsey Silversmith (outfield) along with sophomores Maddy Boyle (pitcher/infield), Rebekah Hoffee (pitcher/shortstop) and Kaitlyn Albone (second base/outfield).

Castricone and Boyle both earned G-R League All-Star honors last year.

“We’ve got a good core coming back but we’re still fairly young,” said new coach Joe Moore. “It all boils down to pitching though and limiting the walks. Our fielding and bats should be solid, pitching its the key. If we keep the walks down I think we’re solid everywhere else and we can be competitive in every game.

Lyndonville is slated to host Medina in a non league opener at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Lady Tigers also have non league contests scheduled against Wilson (March 28), Barker (April 5) and CSAT (April 9) before opening the G-R League season at Wheatland-Chili on April 11.

Lyndonville posted a 7-10 overall record last spring.
