BARKER/ROY-HART WINS A THRILLER

Medina Journal-Register — ALBION - A last second field goal lifted Barker/Roy-Hart to a wild 33-30 victory over Albion Friday in a B East Division contest.

Jacob Haight kicked a 42-yard field goal with just three seconds remaining to earn Barker/Roy-Hart the dramatic win which the team dedicated to the memory of Tyler Miller, a member of the JV team, who passed away earlier this past week.

“Our kids played really well. They played together and pulled out an unbelievable win,” Barker/Roy-Hart head coach Bill Bruning said. “It’s been a tough week for our kids with the passing of Tyler Miller and they wanted to dedicate the game to him and his family.”

A 20-yard run on a fourth down play by Haight along with a 15 yard penalty put Barker/Roy-Hart into field goal range.

Albion had tied the game at 30-30 with 1:32 remaining on an eight-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jon Warne to Trey Hart and a two-point conversion run by Tyler Hughson.

Barker/Roy-Hart pulled into a 22-22 tie in the third quarter on a three-yard touchdown run by Judd Jamieson.

Barker/Roy-Hart then moved into a 30-22 lead with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter on a four-yard touchdown run by Brad Bobbitt. Big runs of 50 yards by Bobbitt and 20 by Brett Cole highlighted that long drive after an interception by Haight stopped an Albion scoring threat.

Barker also got on the scoreboard first as Haight scored on a 30-yard touchdown run and also added the two-point conversion carry with 3:31 to go in the first quarter.

Albion though answered right back as pass completions by Warne of 13 yards to Ed Wolfe and 18 to Jack Narburgh set up a nine-yard touchdown run by Hughson who also added the two-point conversion knotting the contest at 8-8.

The teams then traded touchdowns again in the second quarter. First a 23 yard pass from Cole to Travis Kelkenberg set up four-yard touchdown run by Cole who also added the two point conversion putting Barker/Roy-Hart back up 16-8.

However, Albion again answered the challenge as pass completions by Warne of 17 and 24 yards to Jack Narburgh set up a 12-yard touchdown run by Hughson pulling the Purple Eagles with two at 16-14 as the extra point attempt failed.

Albion though got the ball right back as Jack Narburgh recovered the ball on the ensuing kickoff and the Purple Eagles offense capitalized as Hughson scored on a one yard run with just 27 seconds to go in the half. Hughson also added the two point conversion run giving the Purple Eagles what proved to be their last lead on Homecoming 22-16 at the half.

Hughson finished with 115 yards rushing while Bobbitt had 121, Cole 86 and Haight 68 for Barker/Roy-Hart.

Quincy Byrd and Wolf were each in on 15 tackles for Allbion and Jack Narburgh 10.

Barker/Roy-Hart regains the .500 mark with its third straight win while Albion slips to 1-5.
