ALBION —
Making it two wins in a row to close out the Niagara-Orleans League season, Albion trimmed visiting Barker 47-43 Thursday.
In the other two N-O games Newfane and Wilson both posted victories to emerge as N-O co-champions for the second year in a row. Newfane nipped visiting CSAT 66-64 and Wilson downed host Roy-Hart 66-52 to finish deadlocked for the crown at 11-3.
The N-O season concludes this evening as Medina (2-11) visits Akron (8-5) at 6:30 p.m.
Two free throws by Nick Santos and one by Jack Nenni in the final 12 seconds clinched the narrow win for the Purple Eagles.
Santos finished with 17 and Nenni 10 as Albion winds up the N-O campaign at 5-9.
Jake Haight scored 17 and Josh Haight 16 for Barker which finishes at 4-10.
Albion jumped out to leads of 8-3 after one quarter and 21-12 at the half as Travis Downs netted eight and Santos five during that stretch.
The Purple Eagles maintained a 32-25 lead at the three-quarter mark.
Getting eight points by Jake Haight and five by Josh Haight Barker did battle back to within one in the final minute.
Albion though turned back the challenge as Santos, who had eight down the stretch, closed out the victory with two pressure free throws.
“It’s a good win and gives us good momentum going into the sectionals,” Albion coach Charlie Croff said.
Wilson 66, Roy-Hart 52
MIDDLEPORT — Tyler Martin poured in 27 points and Patrick Diez 18 to spark Wilson past Roy-Hart.
Brad Bobbitt scored 17, Chris Luce 14 and Blake Copella 11 for Roy-Hart which finishes at 5-9.
Wilson built up leads of 16-11 after one period, 37-27 at the half and 48-39 at the three-quarter mark.
Roy-Hart though did rally back to down the stretch but could not pull even as Martin scored nine to keep Wilson on top.
Newfane 66, CSAT 64
NEWFANE — A basket by Connor Sears with 4.8 seconds remaining put Newfane ahead to stay and a steal by Scott Kneeland with a second remaining preserved the Panthers wild victory over CSAT.
Sears finished with a total of 18 points, Kneeland 16 and Reed Weber 12 for Newfane which led 34-28 at the half.
Darnell Carson took game high scoring honors with 31 for CSAT which winds up at 9-5.
