Burgard cagers roll past Albion by 24 points

Medina Journal-Register — ALBION - Pulling away with a big second quarter scoring surge, Burgard went on to defeat Albion 58-34 Wednesday in a non-league game.

Leading by a narrow 13-9 score, Burgard opened the decisive second period with a big 17-2 run including a lay-up off a steal, a three and a lay-up by Aaion Jones, and two rebound buckets by Jamer Holmes to open up a 30-11 advantage.

The Bulldogs maintained a 34-20 lead at the half.

Burgard then put a lock on the victory by outscoring Albion 20-10 in the third period getting baskets from six different players to open up a commanding 24 point, 54-30 advantage at the three-quarter mark.

Holmes finished with 12, Sean Marshall 11, Dayquan Walker 10 and Jones nine for Burgard’s balanced attack.

Freddie Koester scored 15 and Tre Allport 11 for Albion which slips to 0-2.

Burgard next visits Medina at 7 p.m. Friday.

Girls Basketball

Barker 26, Kendall 25

KENDALL - Olivia Denny scored 12 points, including what proved to be the two game deciding free throws with two minutes remaning, to lift Barker past Kendall 26-25 in a non league contest.

Barker, which led 13-11 at the half, improves to 2-1.

Shelby Reis and Nicole Browe each scored seven for Kendall.
