Kendall upsetsNo. 1 Naples

Medina Journal-Register — VICTOR - No. 5 seed Kendall upset top seeded Naples 61-51 Monday in the semifinals of the Section V Class C-3 playoffs.

Dan Kelly scored 22, Jonah Dalcin 18 and Alex Sutphen 10 to spark Kendall to the victory.

“We’re going to the finals. It’s a huge win for our program,” said Kendall coach Justin Laureano.

Sutphen came off the bench to score all 10 of his points in the first half, including hitting two big threes. as the Eagles grabbed a 32-25 advantage at the break.

Dalcin also had 12 rebounds and Kelly six as Mookie Nauden dished out 10 assists.

“They all played as a team and really played together but Alex was the difference maker for us tonight,” said Laureano.

Kendall, which jumped out to a 14-10 first quarter lead, maintained a 40-34 advantage at the three-quarter mark and then used a 21-17 fourth period surge to put a lock on the victory and a trip to Saturday’s C-3 title contest at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.

The Eagles will face N. 2 seed Clyde-Savannah at 11 a.m. Saturday in the title contest. Clyde-Savannah nipped No. 3 Wheatland-Chili 58-57 in Monday’s other semifinal.

Kendall, which ousted No. 4 Dundee 46-38 in the quarterfinals, improves to 12-8.

Section VI Class B-2 

Fredonia 66, CSAT 62

BUFFALO - Trailing 47-41, No. 4 Fredonia rallied with a big 25-15 fourth quarter scoring surge to earn a 66-62 victory over top seeded CSAT in the Section VI Class B-2 semifinals Monday at Buffalo State.

Darnell Carson scored a game high 32 points for Niagara-Orleans League champion CSAT.

Barker, Wilson

No. 6 Barker will take on No. 2 Oracle this evening at Jamestown Community College in the semifinals of the Section VI Class C-1 boys basketball playoffs.

In the Section VI Class B-2 girls semifinals, top seeded Wilson will meet No. 4 Southwestern this evening at Pioneer.
