Kendall boys take aim at sectional title

Medina Journal-Register — Looking to end a 13 year title drought, No. 5 seeded Kendall will take on No. 2 Clyde-Savannah for the Section V Class C-3 championship at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.

Kendall, which last captured a Section V title in 2000, advanced to the title contest by ousting No. 4 Dundee 46-38 in the quarterfinals and upsetting No. 1 Naples 61-51 in the semifinals.

 junior Garrett Love led Kendall against Dundee with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Then in the upset win over Naples, seniors Da Kelly and Jonah Dalcin scored 22 and 18 points respectively and junior Alex Sutphen came off the bench to score 10 first half points, including a pair of big threes, to help the Eagles grab a 32-25 advantage at the break. Dalcin also grabbed off 12 rebounds and Kelly six as sophomore Mookie Nauden chipped in with 10 assists.

“It was a huge win for our program” coach Justin Laureano said. “The kids all really played as a team.”

Kelly averaged 12 points during the regular season, Nauden 10.5 points and 8.6 assists, Love 8 points and 8.3 rebounds and Dalcin 6,8 points and 5.2 rebounds.

Clyde-Savannah gained a spot in the finals by nipping No. 3 Wheatland-Chili 58-57 in the semifinals.

Kendall brings a 12-8 record into the finals while Clyde-Savannah is at 18-2.
