Orleans grapplers earn G-R All-Star honors

Medina Journal-Register — A total of 10 Orleans wrestlers have earned spots on the annual Genesee Region League All-Star squad.

Undefeated G-R champion Holley heads that contingent by placing a total of seven grapplers including seniors Mike Silvis, Andrew Flanagan, Sam Beadle and Nick Winkley along with junior Kevin Avery and sophomores Martin Beadle and Alan White.

The local group also includes Lyndonville sophomore Tony Recco along with the Kendall duo of Avery Iqbal and Nick Bilyk.

Silvis, who was named G-R Wrestler of the Year, placed third at the state championships after winning a Class BB title and placing second at the Section V championships finishing the season with a 50-3 record.

Flanagan, who compiled a 50-5 record, placed fifth at the state championships after winning a Class BB title and finishing third at the Section V championships.

Martin Beadle placed second in the Class BB compeition and fourth at the Section V championships posting a 41-7 season record.

White placed fourth in both the Class BB and Section V championships going 41-10 on the season.

Avery finished third at the Class BB tourney and fifth at the Section V championships compiling a 36-9 record.

Sam Beadle took fifth place at both the Class BB and Section V tournaments going 40-12.

Winkley placed fifth at the Class BB competition and posted a 41-8 season record.

Recco, who went 41-3 on the season, captured a Class B championships but was unable to continue on to defend his Section V and state titles due to an injury.

Iqbal placed seond at the Class B tourney and fourth at the Section V championships going 42-7 on the season.

Bilyk who placed fourth at the Class B tournament, compiled a 34-13 season record.
