Mustangs shut out by Lakemen
BASBEALL: Albion scores nine first-inning runs in 16-1 win.
Limited to three scattered hits, Medina dropped a narrow 2-0 decision to Wilson Tuesday in a Niagara-Orleans League game at Vets Park.
In other N-O action, Albion downed Akron16-1 and Roy-Hart blanked Barker 8-0.
Brad Schlosser hurled the three hitter with 14 strikeouts for Wilson which improves to 2-1.
Medina's best scoring chance came in the third inning as the Mustangs got the first two runners aboard on a single by Dustin Wells and a walk. However, Schlosser bore down to quickly get out of the jam by registering three strikeouts.
Medina's only other hits were a two out single by Danny Barnes in the fifth and a one out single by Chandler Thigpen in the seventh.
Wilson scored what proved to be the game winning run in the fourth inning on a bases loaded walk. Singles by Dan Nugent and Chris Secor and a fielders choice play loaded the bases to set up the threat.
The Lakemen also scored once in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Strassburg after a double by Pat Diez, a walk and an error loaded the bases.
Medina, which slips to 0-2 in the league, visits Newfane this afternoon.
Albion 16, Akron 1
ALBION — A big nine run first inning scoring burst powered Albion (2-1, 6-1) to a 16-1 victory over Akron (2-2) Tuesday.
Travis Downs had a lead-off single and a three-run triple to spark Albion's decisive first inning uprising with also included an RBI single by Tyler Hughson.
Downs and Matt Quider both had a total of three hits on the day as Hughson and Elliott Foss both had two. Downs drove in a total of four runs, Quider three and Hughson two.
Quider pitched the first four innings allowing three hits with nine strikeouts. Hughson came on to hurl the final thee innings giving up four hits and striking out five.
Roy-Hart 8, Barker 0
BARKER — Zach Yates hurled a four hit shut out with eight strikeouts to spark Roy-Hart (3-0) past Barker (0-3).
Ryan Metz had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Rams at the plate as Brian Farewell singled in the game's first run.
Albion 6, Batavia 2
BATAVIA — A two-out, two-run triple by Foos snapped a scoreless deadlock and sparked Albion to a 6-2 non-league win over Batavia Monday at Dwyer Stadium.
Hits by Ryan Golden and Jon Warne set up the Purple Eagles key uprising. Golden had two hits on the day.
Downs at shortstop keyed the Albion defense turning two unassisted double plays.
Chris Reed pitched the first four innings allowing only one hit with one strikeout. John Page came on to pitch the final three frames giving up three hits with two strikeouts.
Oakfield-Alabama 13, Lyndonville 1
OAKFIELD — Capitalizing on 13 walks, Oakfield-Alabama rolled to a 13-1 victory over Lyndonville Monday in a Genesee Region League game.
The host Hornets took the lead for good by scoring five quick runs in the first inning on three walks, a single, double and triple.
James Ianni had two hits for Lyndonville which slips to 1-4 overall.
