MEDINA —
Making it nine wins in a row, Newfane bested host Medina 55-41 Friday to maintain a one-half share of the Niagara-Orleans League lead.
Newfane improves to 10-2 and remains deadlocked for the top spot with Wilson, a 44-32 victor over visiting Albion.
In the other N-O games, CSAT (8-4) downed Roy-Hart (4-8) 69-52 and Barker (4-8) upended Akron (7-5) 46-38.
Scott Kneeland scored 16, Connor Sears 11 and Reid Weber eight to lead Newfane’s balanced attack.
“Balanced scoring and pressure are the keys for us,” Newfane coach Eric Klumpp said.
Dan Brown scored 10 and Jason Heiligenthaler and Lucas Evans eight each for Medina which dropped its ninth in a row to fall to 2-10.
Getting a three and a dunk by Brown, along with jumpers by Heiligenthaler and Evans, Medina did jump out to a 10-5 lead midway through the first quarter.
However, Newfane closed the period with a 13-2 run including threes by Kneeland, Weber and Jake O’Keefe and a three-point play by Sears to rally into the lead for good by a 18-12 margin.
Another three by Weber followed by two buckets by Justin Harvey helped keep the Panthers up by eight, 29-21, at the half.
Newfane pulled away to a commanding 19 point, 42-23, advantage midway through the third quarter after a 13-2 run ignited by back-to-back threes by Kneeland.
The Panthers maintained a 14 point, 43-29, lead at the three-quarter mark and Medina could get no closer than 13 down the stretch.
Medina, which next visits Albion tomorrow, played without season long scoring leader Lonnie Taylor who has left the team.
Wilson 44, Albion 32
WILSON — Leading 9-4, Wilson outscored Albion 25-14 over the middle two quarters to key the 44-32 win over Albion.
Tyler Martin took game high scoring honors with 15 to lead Wilson as Patrick Diez and Liam McIntosh both netted eight.
Nick Santos scored 12 and Elliott Foos nine for Albion which lost its sixth in a row to slip to 3-9.
Barker 46, Akron 38
BARKER — Trailing 34-29, Barker rallied with a big 17-4 fourth quarter scoring burst to upset Akron 46-38.
Mitch Luckman and Jake Haight both scored six points and Justin Howes five to lead the Raiders decisive final quarter uprising.
Jake Haight finished with a game high 17 points and 15 rebounds and Josh Haight added 12 points.
Connor Ladd had 12 for Akron which led 22-17 at the half.
CSAT 69, Roy-Hart 52
BUFFALO — CSAT built up a commanding 28-4 lead in route to posting a 69-52 win over Roy-Hart.
Darnell Carson scored 21 and Desmond LaMar 16 to spark CSAT.
Brad Bobbitt scored 15 and Chris Luce 10 for Roy-Hart.
Webster Christian 62, Lyndonville 58
WEBSTER — A career high 40 point effort by Jiaqwan Dash wasn’t quite enough as Lyndonville dropped a narrow 62-58 non-league decisoon to Webster Christian Saturday afternoon.
Matt Hungerford added 11 points and 16 rebounds for the Tigers who trailed 28-22 at the half and 47-36 at the three-quarter mark.
Attica 66, Holley 63 OT
A three and two free throws by Troy West in the final 40 seconds earned Attica a marathon 66-63 double overtime victory over Holley Friday in a G-R contest.
Holley’s Sage Hodge forced the second overtime with a nearly half court long shot at the end of the first extra period.
The game was tied 51-51 at the end of regulation and 57-57 after one overtime.
Hodge and Camron Quaranto both finished with 17 for Holley as Zach DeLuca added 10, Kyle Bell nine and Will Barniak seven.
