Former Albion High School and current Alden High football coach Dick Diminuco has been selected to be the head coach for the Upstate squad in the upcoming inaugural New York State High School Football Classic.
The contest, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. June 6 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, will match Upstate vs. Downstate squads.
“I got to coach in the first Governor’s Bowl (New York vs. New Jersey) and now to coach in the first state Classic game so it’s pretty exciting,” Diminuco said. “It should be a lot of fun.”
Diminuco has tapped a long-time friend, former Fairport coach Don Santini, to be his assistant head coach. “He’s been one of my good friends for a long, long time so it will be exciting to have him as my assistant head coach,” Diminuco said.
The contest has been established by the state High School football coaches Association to replace the now dissolved New York vs. New Jersey All-Star game.
The Upstate squad will include senior players from sections VI (Buffalo), V (Rochester), III (Syracuse), IV (Binghamton), II (Albany) and X (North Country).
