Seahorses prep for opener

Medina Journal-Register — Looking to build on the momentum from last year's second place finish by the boys team, the Medina High swim squads are prepping for the upcoming Niagara-Orleans League season boosting a good sized lineup of nearly 30 on both teams.

Seniors Steven Hann, Chris Horgan, Mason Roberts, Zach Roeseler, Troy Fidanza, Bryer Boyce and Ben Austin lead the way for the Seahorses boys squad which compiled a 7-3 record in N-O competition last year.

Hann finished second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle at the N-O All-League meet. Hann and Austin were both members of the 200 free relay team which finished second.

Seniors Maggie Laszewski, Renee Miller, Brooke Wheatley and Samantha Snyder, along with juniors Kelsey Evoy, Mackenzie Wright and Samantha Wendling anchor the girls team.

"We've got good numbers on both teams and that's encouraging," coach Mary Dooley said. "So we've got some depth but we're young and we don't have a lot of experience."

The Seahorses will tune up for the N-O season by competing in four non league meets against Genesee Region League opponents including at Notre Dame on Nov. 27, home against H-A-C on Nov. 29, at Byron-Bergen on dEc. 4 and home against Attica on Dec. 6.

Medina will then open the N-O season at home against Barker on Dec. 11.

The Seahorses N-O schedule also includes: Newfane on Dec. 13, Akron on DEc. 18, at Roy-Hart on De.c 20, at Albion on Jan. 3, at Barker on Jan. 8, at Newfane on Jan. 10, at Akron on Jan. 15, Roy-Hart on Jn .17 and Albion on Jan. 24.
