Lady Raiders top Tigers

Medina Journal-Register — LYNDONVILLE - Pulling away with a big second quarter, Barker went on to defeat Lyndonville 45-16 Thursday in a non league basketball game.

Julia Atwater scored a game high 16 points and Sydney Webb netted 10 to lead the Barker attack. Caitlyn Mason added nine, Olivia Denny four, Brook Bodine and Makenzi Strickland two each and Heather Mason one for the Lady Raiders.

Alex Harling led Lyndonvlle with eight as Sierra VanWycke and Jenna Castricone both added four.

Leading 8-2, Barker broke the game wide open by outscoring Lyndonvlle 18-3 in the second quarter. Webb and Atwater both scored six and Caitlyn Mason four during that stretch as the Lady Raiders raced away to a 21 point, 26-5 half-time advantage.

Barker maintained a 15 point, 28-13 advantage at the three-quarter mark.

Both teams are now 1-1 on the season.

Medina 44, Oakfield-Alabama 31

OAKFIELD - Steadily pulling away, Medina scored a 44-31 victory over Oakfield-Alabama Thursday in the Mustangs’ non league season opener.

Alba Perez had 18 points and 20 rebounds to lead the way for Medina. Abby Button added eight points, Tanisha Robinson six, Olivia Hermann four and Bailey Ames and Nicole Blount two. Button also grabbed seven rebounds.

Medina jumped out to a 16-10 first quarter lead and increased the advantage to 27-15 at the half and 39-25 after three-quarters. Perez tallied six and Robinson and Button four each in the opening quarter. Perez also netted five in both the second and third periods.
