Albion rallies past defending league-champion Roy-Hart
Gaining a split on the day, host Medina defeated St. Francis 43-30 but lost to Newfane 42-38 Wednesday in a season opening tri-match.
In the evening’s feature Niagara-Orleans League opener, host Albion came up with a huge late rally to defeat defending champion Roy-Hart 44-39.
Genesee Region League action also got under way as Holley downed rival Kendall 58-19.
Pins by Dominic Montesanti (171), Blade Garlow (285), Randy Grey (96), Ryan Grey (135) and Tristan Hamner (152) highlighted Medina’s non-league victory over St. Francis.
The Mustangs also got decision wins by Dylan Duncanson (140) and Evan Wells (145).
Medina grabbed a 4-0 lead at the outset of the N-O match against Newfane on a major decision win by Shane Kruger (171).
Newfane answered with consecutive pins by Jimmy Enderton (189), Pat Granchelli (215) and Jake Summers (285) to take the lead for good at 18-4. Medina cut the deficit to 18-14 after a second period pin by Randy Grey (96) and a major decision win by Dustin Wells (103), but the Mustangs could get no closer.
