Medina, Albion, Roy-Hart split league openers

Niagara-Orleans League swim season gets under way on Tuesday

Medina earned a split with Barker Tuesday to open the Niagara-Orleans League season winning the boys’ meet 102-66 and losing the girls 88-82.

Albion likewise split at Akron winning the girls competition 87-82 and losing the boys 97-73.

Roy-Hart also came home from Newfane with a split winning the boys competition 107-62 and losing the girls 89-81.

The Medina boys squad was led by a pair of individual event double winners as Clay Barna took the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and Tim Kaiser the 100 free and 100 backstroke.

The Seahorses also got wins from Sean Evoy in the 200 free and Andrew Cotter in the 500 free.

Zach Heil was on all three winning relays for Medina while Kaiser, Barna and Craig Castricone were each on two.

Robert Schumacher doubled for Barker in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

Margie Zaepfel doubled for the Barker girls in the 200 IM and 100 free. She was also on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays as was Brianna Sutch.

Alecia Fortunato doubled in the 200 and 500 freestyle events for Medina which also got wins from Nicole Porter in the 50 free and Megan McAnn in the 100 butterfly.

The Albion girls were sparked by double winners Amy Jessmer (50 free, 100 backstroke) and Katie Donnelly (200 IM, 100 butterfly). Kaitlyn Miller added a win in the 500 free and Hannah Joslyn took the 100 breaststroke.

Jessmer, Shannon Mulrain and Leah Knab also teamed up with Joslyn to win the 200 medley relay and with Donnelly to take the 400 free relay.

Ben Schaefer doubled in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly to lead the Akron boys which swept all three relays.

Bryan Deibel doubled in the 200 and 500 freestyle events for Albion as Bran Davies added a win in the 100 backstroke.

Jason Beabout won both the 200 and 500 freestyle events and Josh Beabout the 200 IM and 100 butterfly to lead the Roy-Hart boys.

Brianna Strong won both the 100 free and 100 backstroke for the Newfane girls. She was also on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams which both set school records as was KiKi Dy.

Sarah Dimayo was a double winner for the Roy-Hart girls in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.
