Veteran Purple Eagles netsquad looks to challenge
Over the past two years youthful Albion tennis squads have gained experienced while enduring a tough learning curve that resulted in back-to-back 0-12 Niagara-Orleans League seasons.
However, that now experienced, senior laden Purple Eagles squad led by six returning regulars is looking to move back into N-O title contention this spring.
Seniors Jeff Rice and Alex Barleben, who both earned second team N-O All-League honors last year, heads that veteran contingent which also includes seniors Mike Slick, Jack Smith, junior AJ Barrile and sophomore Joyce LaLonde. Slick earned All-League honorable mention.
The Purple Eagles are also looking to senior Josue Serafin and junior Humza Quinn to help fill out the starting lineup.
“I’m very optimistic. This is a great group of kids,” coach Jay Kovaleski said. “I think we can be right in it. We’ve got real good experience back and that’s what has them excited about wanting to go out and get it.”
The other senior members of the squad include Robert Swan, and Thomas Kovaleski, Abby Edwards and Michaela Miller.
The Purple Eagles are scheduled to open the N-O season at home tomorrow against Medina at 4:30 p.m.
