Post season high school basketball action gets underway for Lyndonville at 7 p.m. Monday as the Lady Tigers travel to Warsaw to face Bolivar-Richburg in a Section V Class BB game.
Lyndonville, which brings a 7-11 record into the sectionals, is seeded No. 12 while Bolivar-Richburg is No. 5 at 13-5.
Offensively, Lyndonville has been led this season by junior Sam Skryp and senior Ashleigh Mahnke who are averaging 11 and 8 points respectively.
“The talent is there,” Lyndonville coach Karli Sturtevant said of her Lady Tigers. “We just have to play better than we have been in close games. The turnovers have just killed us and we have to stay out of foul trouble.”
In Section V Class C competition, No. 16 Kendall (1-17) will visit top seed Keshequa (15-3) at 7 p.m. this evening.
Kendall has been led this season by Samantha D’Agostino who is averaging 10 points per game.
Holley, which is seeded No. 2 in Class B, will open playoff action at home Feb. 26 against the winner of a preliminary round game between No. 10 Sodus (5-13) and No. 7 LeRoy (6-12).
Holley coach Randy Bower, who was honored this week as Section V Class B Coach of the Year, and his Lady Hawks bring a 11-7 record into post season competition.
Holley has been led this season by junior Julie Brooks, who is averaging 13 points per outing and senior Jessica Bower, who is averaging eight points. Brooks has also grabbed off 169 rebounds and senior Corinne VanSchoick 175.
The seeding meetings for the Section V boys and the Section VI boys and girls playoffs will be held this Saturday.
Boys Basketball
Akron 63, Barker 39
AKRON — Trevor Short poured in a game high 26 points and Alec Short added 16 to pace Akron (8-6) to a Niagara-Orleans League season ending 63-39 victory over Barker (3-11) Thursday.
Trevor Short, who topped the 1,000 point career scoring mark on the evening, netted 14 in the first half and Alec Short 10 as the Tigers built up a 30-21 advantage at the break.
Matt Sweeney scored 11 while Xavier Mann and Josh Haight both had 10 for Barker.
