Medina tops CSAT

Medina Journal-Register — Leading from wire to wire, Medina posted a 57-39 victory over visiting CSAT Thursday in the Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball opener.

Alba Perez poured in a game high 26 points and grabbed off 24 rebounds to lead the way for Medina.

Tanisha Robinson added nine points, Abby Button six, Olivia Hermann and Bailey Ames five each, Taylor Miller four and Kendra Hill two for the Mustangs. Button also had 10 rebounds and Robinson five steals and five assists.

Samantha Dugo led CSAT with 19 points.

Medina jumped out to a 13-5 first quarter lead highlighted by a three by Button along with two fast break lay-ups by Robinson and one by Ames.

A jumper by Ames and a three by Button quickly upped the Mustangs lead to 15, 20-5, early in the second quarter.

Perez then went on a 12 point run to help keep Medina up by 20, 34-14, at the half.

CSAT did cut the deficit to 13, 42-29, at the three-quarter mark as Dugo tallied eight including two three’s. Perez scored all eight of Medina’s points in the stanza.

CSAT cut the deficit to nine, 42-33, early in the final period but Medina answered with buckets by Miller, Hill and Taylor to pull back out to a 15 point, 53-38, advantage and put a lock on the win.

“We passed the ball well and did a lot of good things,” Medina coach Ken Haak said. ‘But we’ve still got a lot of things to work on.”

Medina next faces Wayland-Cohoction in the opening round of the Avon Torunament on Dec. 27.

Wilson 59, Roy-Hart 26

MIDDLEPORT - Roaring out to a whopping 43-4 half-time advantage, Wilson went on to defeat Roy-Hart 59-26 in a match between last year’s N-O co-champions.

Jamie Curry took game high scoring honors with 21 and Emily Lasher added 11 to lead the Wilson attack. Curry netted 10 in the opening period which saw Wilson jump out to a 22-1 lead.

Olivia Kelkenberg led Roy-Hart with 11.

Notre Dame 68,

Lyndonville 22

Jumping out to a 19-5 first quarter lead, Notre Dame went on to defeat Lyndonville 68-22 Thursday in a Genesee Region League game.

Emily McCraken scored 15 and Shae Norton and Melonie Taylor 10 each to spark Notre Dame.

Alyssa Mahnke led Lyndonille with seven.
