Medina Journal-Register — Medina, Lyndonville, Holley and Roy-Hart wrestlers all captured individual weight class titles at the sectional class tournaments Saturday.
Medina’s Matt Montesanti captured his second straight Section VI Class C title by decisioning Roy-Hart’s Clayton Smith 4-1 in the 285 pound finals Saturday at Eden.
Montesanti pinned Jesse Walker (Fredonia) in 2:45 in the semifinals.
Medina also had two third place finishers in Brennen Callara (99) and Nick Erway (120). Callara pinned Ben McKaluey (Fredonia) in 1:23 and Erway pinned Najeeb Saib (Lackawanna ) in 2:57 for third place honors.
Lyndonville’s Tony Recco likewise repeated as a Section V Class B champion as he decisioned Kendall’s Avery Iqbal 6-0 in the 106 finals.
The Tigers also had Dustin Hinkley (120) finish third, Tommy Follman (132) fourth, Dustin Joy (126) fifth and Jeffrey Gress Jr. (99) sixth. Hinkley decisioned Victor Peterson from Avoca 11-3 for third place honors.
Holley had a pair of repeat champions at the Section V Class BB Tournament at Campbell-Savonna in Andrew Flanagan (99) and Mike Silvis (220).
Flanagan registered three straight pins to advance to the finals where he decisioned Dane Heberlein (Alexander) 9-0. Silvis scored two pins to reach the finals where he pinned Jose Aguilera (Sodus) in 3:19.
The Hawks also had two second place finishers in Martin Beadle (132) and Caleb Deip (160). Beadle lost 16-4 in the finals to Clyde Carey (Addision) and Deip lost by a 23-7 technical fall to Burke Paddock (Warsaw).
Holley also had Kevin Avery (145) place third, Alan White (120) fourth and Dan Flanagan (126), Sam Beadle (138), Nick Winkley (170) and Lucas Silvis (285) fifth. Avery decisioned Devan Marsteiner (Sodus) 4-0 for third place.
Holley finished second to Warsaw in the team competition. The Tigers had 263 points and the Hawks 208.5.
Roy-Hart had a pair of Section VI Class C champions in Cameron Swick (106) and Drew Hull (145). Swick decisioned Newfane’s Jordan Camarre 6-1 and Hull edged Fredonia’s Jude Gardner 1-0 in the finals.
The Rams also had Zach Bickle (126) place third and Alex Jensen (220) fourth.
Albion had two third place finishers at the Section VI Class B Tournament at East Aurora in Kyle McGaffick (145) and Greg Blank (160).
McGaffick pinned Jeremy Giltner (Westfall/Ripley/ Chautuaqua Lake) in 1:34 and Blank decisoned Robert Sutherland (Pioneer) 3-0 in the matches for third place.
Akron had Ethan Pequeen (113) and Joey Sarow (170) place second at the Class C Tournament as Matt Fieblekorn (113) and David Case (285) took third.
Newfane had Nate Martin (138) second and Jake Kubala (152), Jordan Brawley (182) and Jake Warner (195) third.
Wilson’s Chase Wheeler (160) placed second and Brian Kerwin (220) third.
