LYNDONVILLE —
Unable to keep the momentum from a big first quarter, Lyndonville dropped a 85-63 decision to Elba Wednesday in a Genesee Region League game.
In other G-R action, Holley edged past Pembroke 47-46 and Wheatland-Chili defeated visiting Kendall 73-48.
Matt Ramsey scored 22 and Dan Ramsey and Jesse Pfaumer 15 each to spearhead Elba to the come-from-behind win as the Lancers improve to 15-2.
Jiaqwan Dash took game high scoring honors with 28 for Lyndonville as Jimmy White added 10. Dash also had 10 assists and six rebounds and Matt Hungerford added 10 rebounds and nine points.
Dash erupted for 11 quick points on four lay-ups and a three and Hungerford chipped in with six on three lay-ups to spark Lyndonville out to a 21-16 first quarter lead.
However, the Tigers managed a total of just 26 more points over the middle two periods and the Lancers countered with 47 during that stretch to key the comeback.
“We got off to our best start of the season,” Lyndonville coach Jeremy Dent said. “We had a lot of energy and got a great team effort. Elba is a great team though and they’re tough to defend. We had them on their heels early but we got a little tired in the second half and they started pushing.”
Pfaumer came off the bench to score 13, including two threes, to ignite a 21-13 second period Elba surge which rallied the Lancers into a 37-34 lead at the half.
Lyndonville stayed within three, 42-39, early in the third period after a three by Joey Sukackas and a lay-up by Corey Nicholson but the Tigers would get no closer.
Getting the running game in gear and capitalizing on a rash of Lyndonville turnovers, the Lancers outscored the Tigers 21-8 over the rest of the period to race away to a 15 point, 63-47, advantage at the three-quarter mark.
Matt Ramsey poured in 11 points to lead that Lancer uprising as Andy Boyce added six and Dan Ramsey five.
Lyndonville, which slips to 1-15, next visits Webster Christian Saturday in a non-league contest.
