MEDINA — Joanne D. Wehling, affectionately known as "Nana", passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Medina Memorial Hospital, after a courageous   battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family when she passed.

Joanne was born in Buffalo, NY on May 21, 1939 to Eugene D. Beaver and Dorothy (Cowles) Beaver.  Her family moved to East Shelby when she was young and she lived in the Medina area most of her life. She was predeceased by her father, Eugene; step-mother, Jean (Reckahn) Beaver; mother, Dorothy; brothers, Donald and David; sister, Dorothy; and step-brothers, Jim and Bruce Reckahn. Joanne is survived by her husband of 56 years, William L. Wehling; sons, William E. (Robin) Wehling of Medina and Michael A. Wehling of Medina (at home); daughter, Jacqueline A. (Doug Wall) Mishra of Bernards Bay, NY; grandchildren, Marcy E. Wehling of Rochester, William V. (Liz) Wehling of Alexandria, VA, Erik J. Wehling of Medina, Alan R. (Amy) Ward of Spencerport, Vinita J. Mishra of Baltimore, MD and Michael J. Mishra of Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren, Jaida A. Ward and Ashton R. Ward, also of Spencerport; sister-in-laws, Trish Beaver of SC, Angel Beaver of Buffalo, Jeanne Reckahn of Medina; brother in-law, Walter (Terry) Wehling of Medina; also several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.  Joanne was a lifelong and selfless caregiver to her special son, Michael. Her Facebook page says, "I'm Mike's mom, that's all you need to know about me. He is the most important factor of my life." She was a loving wife and mother. Family was always first and foremost, always putting their needs before her own. She was very intelligent, pursuing a college education when her oldest was in high school, attending Empire State College and SUNY Brockport. She was a tough act to follow, especially when it came time for homework. A diehard Democrat, she was always well read in politics and world events. Some of the things she enjoyed doing most were researching on her computer, emailing and Facebooking. Joanne was self-taught and she always enjoyed a good book.

Joanne was an inspiration and guiding light to her family. She will be sorely missed by us and all who knew her. Per her wishes, there will be no prior calling hours or services. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were completed by Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.
