Betty Schnackel

VICTOR — Betty (Woodard) Schnackel, age 85, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Leo Center for Caring in Rochester. She is survived by four children, Barbara (Mark) Benson, Donald Schnackel, Cherrie Parker and Scott (Diane) Schnackel; 11 grandchildren, Amanda and Andy Benson, Allison, Kevin and Jeffrey Schnackel, Matthew, Eric and Bryan Parker, Courtney Charles, Zachary (Sara) Schnackel and Kayleigh Schnackel; great-grandson, Camden Charles; two nieces, Debbie (Jerry) Testa and Sharon DeFelice; and nephew, Clem (Vania) DeFelice. She was predeceased by her husband, Oliver H. Schnackel in 2008; twin sister, Florence DeFelice; and nephew, John DeFelice.

Mrs. Schnackel was born in Medina and attended Medina schools. She was a graduate of Medina High School, class of 1944. Mrs. Schnackel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from SUNY Geneseo in 1948. After college, she taught school and raised her family. Mrs. Schnackel later became a library media specialist at Medina Central Schools, for 21 years, retiring in 1987. She was a former active member of St. Mary's Church in Medina and a current member of St. Mary's Church in Canandaigua, where she was      involved in the prayer shawl ministry. Mrs. Schnackel was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 PM at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medina Central School District, 1 Mustang Dr., Medina, NY 14103, for the purchasing of library books.
