SUN CITY CENTER, FL —
Sam Ognibene, of Sun City Center, FL, formerly of Medina, NY, died on October 23, 2012, at age 85. He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Minnie Ognibene; sister, Sarah (Joe) Ricotta; and brother, Frank.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 60 years, Joanne (Stookey) Ognibene; his sisters, Rose Hollis of Maryland and Josephine Nielsen of Rochester; his sister-in-law, Rosalie Ognibene of Rochester; and much loved nieces and nephews.
Sam was a math teacher in the Panama Canal zone for 18 years. He played the bugle in a Drum Corps in Medina and later loved to go to competitions. He also enjoyed table tennis and won many medals in senior games. He won the Singles National Championship Title at the Senior Games at the University of Norfolk, VA in 2003.
A memorial mass was held on Monday, November 12, 2012, at Holy Cross Church, Rochester, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
